Business Development Manager – Industrial Automation
Location: Denver, CO (Territory: Colorado & surrounding region)
Travel: ~30–50% (local and regional)
Position Overview
We are seeking a driven and technically capable Business Development Manager to grow our presence in the industrial automation market. This role is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing customer relationships, and delivering solution-based sales across key industries including Oil & Gas, Water/Wastewater, Data Centers, and Building Automation.
This is a hybrid technical sales role, combining business development, solution consulting, and account management. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and executive stakeholders to deliver value-driven automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, prospect, and develop new customer relationships within the assigned territory
- Manage and grow existing accounts while expanding share of wallet
- Lead the full sales cycle: discovery, solution development, proposal, and close
- Deliver product and solution demonstrations tailored to customer needs
- Collaborate with internal technical resources to design and position solutions
- Provide light post-sale support and ensure successful solution adoption
- Maintain a strong understanding of product offerings and industry trends
- Track pipeline activity and maintain accurate CRM reporting

- Consistent achievement of quarterly and annual revenue targets
- Growth in new account acquisition and territory expansion
- Strong customer retention and repeat business
- Development of trusted advisor relationships with technical and executive stakeholders
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–8+ years of experience in technical or solution-based sales
- Working knowledge of industrial automation technologies such as HMI/SCADA, PLCs/RTUs, historians, or remote monitoring systems
- Proven track record of generating new business and closing deals
- Experience selling into at least one of the following: Oil & Gas, Water/Wastewater, Data Centers, or Building Automation
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred:
- Experience in a manufacturer, distributor, or systems integrator environment
- Familiarity with consultative or solution-selling methodologies
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
